Is Travel Nursing For You?
Travel nursing has been around for over twenty years. It's popularity has soared over the past decade...creating an opportunity for nurses to combine the joys of travel with the rewards of a high-paying, well-benefited nursing career.
Imagine going to just about anywhere in the USA...with a temporary assignment already set up, and with paid travel expenses, housing and health insurance included. And then throw in a $500 to $5,000 completion bonus.
Expand Your Horizons
Your nursing experience would expand as well as your circle of new friends. Fellow travelers tend to become a supportive group and some even end up taking contracts at the same hospital on subsequent assignments.
The advance of the travel nurse career is supported by an increasingly mobile work force, using computers, cell phones and other mobile devices. Online applications make it easy to apply to agencies across the country. Documents can be emailed or faxed from just about anywhere.
Oh, and don't forget the reason you choose that particular destination. Whether it's skiing, beach combing, mountain climbing or being close to your brand new niece or grandchild...the trip is worth it.
You choose. You're in control.
You Choose the Destination
The best part is that you can take your skills and knowledge just about anywhere in the USA. Pack your uniforms along with your skis, beach bag, hiking boots or snorkel set. Whatever your passion, there is a destination with a need.
Are you tired of big city hospitals...try a smaller community hospital. Or are you looking for a more challenging assignment? Nursing assignments are going unfilled.
Add Passive Income to Your Assignment
You can add some steady passive income to your pocketbook while enjoying the sights and flavor of your destination.

You Choose the Compensation Package
Most travel nurse agencies will work with you to provide the compensation package that best fits your needs. Do you need more cash up front, as in a higher hourly rate? Or would you rather spread the compensation over tax free or tax deductible benefits like housing and travel?
Free health insurance is usually available. Many agencies also offer 401Ks and other benefits. Of course, liability and worker's comp are included.

5 Tips to Boost Your Nursing Travel Career
What You Need To Be A Travel Nurse.
Generally, you will be filling a 13 week need at a hospital. They expect you to have a minimum of 1 -2 years current nursing experience in the specialty you are contracting for.
You will be expected to function with minimal orientation. So a solid clinical background in your specialty is a must. This is not the place to learn new skills or try a different specialty.
You will, however, still be able to learn a few new things as you travel the country. You may find that other facilities and various regions use different equipment or a few different drugs that you are not familiar with. It is your responsibility as a nurse to ask for orientation to new equipment and to look up unfamiliar meds.
Computer technology is the biggest variance. You need some basic computer skills to adapt to each facility. Training on their computer system should be provided.
Remember...ask questions and seek clarification if you are not sure.
Travel nursing can be a fun and rewarding career. There are so many jobs available that there is sure to be one to meet your nursing career needs.
