Designing Business Cards That Work

Your nursing business cards will be the single most used marketing tool you design. Yet they very often demonstrate the least marketing smarts.

A conventional card includes a logo and some basic information---the name of the organization, your name, title, phone numbers, street address, email and website.

Sometimes the simplest format is the most effective. There are, however, additional things you can you do to make them stand out and generate business.

  • Add some color. But no more than two, and use primary colors.
  • Add a motto that states what makes you special.
  • Mirror your client’s taste and expectations.
  • Add a simple image such as a photo.

Increase the Odds Your Business Cards are Kept

You can increase the chance of your business cards being kept by incorporating helpful information on the back. This should be information, specific to your company, which your prospect might refer to from time to time.

Another technique is to create a referral card. If your company recruits members, this will make it easy to introduce the company and invite a prospect to your next meeting.

On the front, provide a place to fill in the date, time and location of the next meeting, the address, your name and phone number. On the back, include a brief overview of the company and any necessary details. Give each member a handful and encourage them to distribute them when they see an opportunity.

Avoid cute or clever. Not all your customers will appreciate it. Leave lots of white space so the information stands out and is easy to read.

Designing business cards takes some thought. Don’t rush it. Try different setups and decide what works best with your prospective clients.
